Part of this suburb consists of newly developed housing estates and other parts are older with housing styles from the 1970s.
The suburb is located in the Centenary area 14 kilometres southwest of the Brisbane CBD.
According to REIQ research, Seventeen Mile Rocks has grown strongly during the 1990s with the number of houses in the suburb more than doubling since 1991.
Although the majority of residents live in owner-occupied housing there is a developing rental market with approximately one in every four residential dwellings available for rent.
The CityXpress bus and the Centenary Highway service the area. There are several schools in the area including a secondary college located in nearby Oxley.
The district has many recreational facilities include two golf courses: the Jindalee Golf Course and McLeod Country Golf Course. A city council library is located at nearby Mt Ommaney.
Retail facilities in the region are extensive and include Christies Home Base at Jindalee and the Mt Ommaney Centre at Mt Ommaney, which has 110 retail outlets including a Kmart, Big W, Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.
There is extensive light and semi industrial and commercial development in this suburb, which was enhanced by an innovative new industrial park undertaken in the suburb.
